Initial Tasks

(a description of the initial tasks by the admin user: creating users and groups, defining roots, loading networks into the roots etc)

Admin Password

Once you have completed the installation, you can login as user admin (without password). Your first task will then be setting a password for the admin user <insert screenshots>.

Defining some users and groups

HaCi allows you to create users and groups. When adding a new user, you will be prompted for a password and a description, and also for his group associations. Groups are where you define permissions for your users. <insert screenshot of group creation> As a first step, let's create a readonly group, and assign a user to it <screenshots, step by step guide>.

Roots

A Root is sort of a placeholder that allows you to group your network logically. The first grouping that comes to mind is ipv4 and ipv6 (since you can't mix them in the internal tree structure anyway). So you may want to create two root, e.g. "My IPv4 Addresses" and "My IPv6 Addresses". Another useful grouping you could use is if you have address space from more than one RIR. So you could have "My RIPE v4 addys" and "My ARIN v4 addys". <screenshot> You can come up with several roots according to your needs. The software will also create some roots automatically when importing configurations. When you create a root, you will be prompted for a name and a description, and you will need to tick the IPv6 box if the root will be used for v6 addresses. You will also need to assign privileges to the user groups. The admin group can always read and write anything, but you can restrict privileges to the other users. Each node in the tree, from the root down to the single address, can have different privileges.
